So just been on a little mini break to Brussels with my best friend, which was fab and ridiculously cheap! There’s so much to do and see in Brussels, yet it seems to be overlooked by people relative to Prague and Budapest.
It cost me the grand sum of €139 for 2 nights in a 5 star hotel, my Eurostar fare PLUS continental breakfast each morning.
And oh my god was it worth it.
Those croissants alone were worth it! (One day I had 7- plus an array of cheeses and muesli and fruits!) And it was so good to get breakfast included as because it’s the capital… food is horrendously expensive. To be fair, we stayed right up near grand place which is really the heart of Brussels, so it’s going to be the most expensive to eat. However, we were lucky enough to be right next to a Carrefour- which is a supermarket, so we ate from there sometimes as we had a microwave in our room.
So, what did we get up to????
Well I’m not a big one for cathedrals/ art but even I was impressed! The sheer size and beauty of them was amazing- and tomorrow I’m off to get the snaps developed from my disposable camera for lots of edgy instagram shots, so stay tuned.
There was also the Christmas market which was so cute! And reasonably priced (except the chocolate, which was so good but horrifically expensive). The grand place, which we were right next to, was beautiful (google it, seriously) and we saw a light show which was where music was played every hour and the entire square was lit up, which is something I’ll never forget.
I had a slight nerdy moment, we visited this thing called the atomium, which was basically 9 giant metal balls which you can go inside. It is based on the lattice structure of iron, and represents how metals should be used for good like nuclear power (although arguable) and not for war. It was 102m tall and was a.m.a.z.i.n.g, definitely something I’d recommend. The lost forest was next to the atomium, which was so tranquil and made for some pretty amazing views.
To sum up, Brussels has definitely exceeded my expectations, and would definitely suggest to look into it as you’ll be surprised how easy it is to do on a budget!
