Yeah let’s face it, nothing has changed.
Well, I’m slightly older but definitely not wiser. Although, I have reflected a little bit.
Christmas really is a time for family and friends, and not about how many presents you get or how much mummy and daddy have spent on you.
My family is far from perfect, but I have the loving support of my mother, father and grandparents, which not many people are fortunate enough to have. Presents are seen as such a central part to Christmas, but yet, they’re just materialistic objects which usually hold no real value to us.
And yet, they become our desires.
We marvel at their beauty and think that they are they will make us happy. It’s sad that with a world so full of hatred we cannot see that the most beautiful thing isn’t the new iPhone, or the latest ted baker bag, it is in fact family.
They won’t last forever, and would move heaven and earth for me, but I still take them for granted.
So this year I decided to spend New Year’s Eve with my family, as opposed to getting drunk and falling down stairs. I thought it was going to be boring, you know a board game or maybe a glass of wine but no, it was one of the best nights of my life. Even Cards against humanity came out (which I must admit, I was a bit apprehensive to play with my mum).
We all know people who have lost members of their immediate family, so this year I am going to try and spend more time with those I love dearest, as I find at University, its so easy to become wrapped up in your own world.
